Rigid Borescope and its utilization

Posted by Jason Alvarado

A borescope is an optical device used to light up and view inaccessible objects and areas. This device can be rigid or flexible. Although rigid borescopes are the same as fiberscopes but usually rigid borescopes provide a better-quality image at lesser cost contrasted to a flexible borescope . Rigid borescopes have the curb that it cannot bend so what is to be examined must be in a straight line. Rigid borescopes are consequently appropriate for these everyday jobs such as examining automotive cylinders, fuel injectors and hydraulic manifold bodies, and gunsmithing.

A rigid borescope is a useful device for the examination of an automotive fuel injector or cylinder. A rigid borescope is a tube that can be put into the petite and dim part of an engine that is otherwise inaccessible with naked eye. A borescope helps a mechanic to examine an engine problem and check the surface area of an engine component without breaching the engine.

A rigid borescope is often the best option for a mechanic because it permits the professional to observe straight into the engine or engine component. The machinist can view the area closely with the magnifying tool of rigid borescope . The device is also generally outfitted with fiber optic lighting to illuminate the petite, dim area inside the engine. This helps to make clear the magnified image to the naked eye.

A camera device can also be connected to the rigid borescope. This camera device can be linked to an LCD and assists the user in having the clear image onto the screen. This can be useful for a mechanic as he can view minor engine parts on a big screen. This can also help the mechanic in inspecting the image with a number of coworkers and to find other expert views on the trouble area.

A rigid borescope can be found in the shape of a straight tube and a tube with a 90 degree angle. A rigid borescope tube with a 90 degree bend can be utilized by mechanics to inspect tubing or other parts. Although these sorts of devices are accessible, but for tasks that involve manifold turns can use flexible borescopes. There are a number of magnifying tools that can be connected to borescope. It depends on the type of rigid borescope that of which strength and size of the magnifying device can be connected to the borescope. The machinist can select from an eye piece to sight the image or a video device to view the image on an LCD.

A rigid borescope can assist aircraft mechanics in detecting an engine problem. These mechanics generally have need of longer rigid borescope with a tube of larger diameter because they are dealing with a bigger area. Aircraft mechanics rely on rigid borescope for help because it offers a higher resolution image that is very useful for the detection of problem area. A rigid borescope saves the mechanic time and money by permitting them to see inside the engine without breaking the parts of the engine. The rigid borescopes provides a high resolution image and an easy to navigate tube that helps mechanics in detecting and fixing the problems timely.

Use of Borescope in Engine Inspection

Posted by Jason Alvarado

Although borescope is not commonly used as an effective tool in the diagnosis of problems which cannot be identified easily because most of the problems are hidden and out of human sight, yet borescope is being utilized very successfully in some fields making the work of mechanic or an engineer easier and more convenient. Besides its usage in machinery and maintenance of the automobiles and airplanes, it is being used very effectively in Police and Customs Investigation, Locksmith, Manufacturing, Plumbing, Plant maintenance, veterinary and electrical appliances.

In engine inspection, borescope is being used very confidently. The mechanic, with the help of borescope, can have access to those parts of the engine where he is unable to see and inspect. The flexible borescope can get into to those parts of the engine which are deep into the engine and cannot be seen and inspected by the engineer. The hard-to-see parts of the engine are now no more hard-to-see, and this has become possible only with the help of borescope. Borescope helps the engineer check and inspect imperfections and burrs in the interior section of the engines, fuel injectors and transmissions. For diesel parts, both flexible and rigid borescopes are used. Borescope can inspect nozzles of fuel injector, pumps, bodies and lines very easily and quickly. There are many borescopes for different purposes and among them some are flexible and some are hard. The mechanic uses the right kind of borescope in accordance with his needs and the nature of the work. While inspecting the engine, the borescope helps inspect cylinders, manifolds, valves and sleeves very conveniently and easily. It saves both money and time.

Borescope is a wonderful gadget that helps the engineer examine very small and complex parts of the engines which produce burrs and are responsible various defects in deep bores, bent tubes, and complex castings etc. Today, the engines are more complicated and effective than before, so their maintenance has also become very difficult and complicated. Borescope has solved this problem. Now the engineer could have an easy access to the faulty area of the engine and hence diagnose the fault with the solution without any difficulty. With the help of borescope, now the mechanic is in better position to maintain his quality control. In the past, cross holes and interior cavities were very difficult, even impossible, to inspect, but today borescope has made it possible. Now the engineer cannot only very easily get into these cross holes and interior cavities but he can also make diagnosis of the problem.

On the whole, we can conclude that borescope is a wonderful gadget that has enabled the engineer to get into the narrow cavities of the engine very successful. He can watch on the mini screen of the borescope the video as well as the images of the inner parts of the engine. The luminescent photography of the borescope makes very clear image of the inner cavities and narrow lines of the engine making every minor fault magnified on the screen. Borescope can produce for your both images and video for the engineer. It is up to the engineer what he wants out of that particular situation.

General Information About Rigid Borescopes

Posted by Viktor Zhuromskyy

Borescopes are a must in any inspection type of job, where certain physical characteristics (size, surface condition) must be examined. A borescope allows the person to view a magnifying image of a remote object. Here is how it works. This optical device consists of a rigid or flexible tube with an eyepiece on one end, an objective lens on the other linked together by a relay optical system in between, which is surrounded by optical fibers that illuminate the remote object. But this is not how things always used to be. Initially, the technology was quite different. Prior to 1960, borescopes used hot and often dangerous incandescent lamps at the distal (working) end.Rigid Borescopes

Today's advanced borescopes use fiber optic illumination in the scope body and can connect either directly with portable LED Light Sources or stand-alone XENON, Metal Halide or Halogen light sources for portable operation or the brighter wall powered light sources. Some of the more popular brands that produce borescopes are Hawkeye, Karl Storz, Olympus, Richard Wolf.

With the help of a borescope, you can get a clear view at something that is otherwise inaccessible. Bore scopes can be either a rigid (industrial endoscope) or flexible (fibrescope, flexible borescope).

Flexible borescopes also are called Fiberscopes - because their relay optical system that transfer image consist of thousands of tiny fibers (fiber optic image bundle). Rigid borescopes (bore scope) are like fiberscopes, but aren't flexible and a produce an image of higher quality, which makes them more suitable for tasks such as inspecting automotive cylinders, fuel injectors, hydraulic manifold bodies. Rigid or flexible borescopes may be fitted with a magnifying device and a way to illuminate the work being inspected, usually illumination fibers contained in the insertion tube of the borescope. The eyepiece may be fitted with a coupler lens to allow the borescope to be used with imaging devices such as a video or CCD camera, so called borescope viewer. Furthermore, borescopes can be used for rifle inspection and precision shooting as well.

With a borescope, you as a viewer can look from every available corner and hard to reach areas as well as inspect object from different angles, by manipulating a tip of the fiberscope and pass along the corners. Currently, 1,2 or 4 way articulation fiberscopes are made. Rotate it in a given direction and you will get a 360 degree view.

This type of tool will save you a lot of time, because with it, you won't have to dismantle the object, instead you can do a close-up interior inspections using the borescope.
